Printing Green

Corporate Printing For Rima and Joseph Matly, both born in Lebanon (the country, not the Indiana town), frugal and responsible use of resources is a part of running the day-to-day operation of their local family business, Corporate Printing.

Joseph and Rima came to the U.S. at the ages of 16 and 4 respectively. When opportunity presented itself, even though they had two small kids on their hands (George, a year and a half old, and Samantha, three and a half years old), the Matlys decided to take a risk and start their own printing business. They have been running a successful local family operation for over 12 years. The company serves most small business needs, from print, graphic design and layout, to direct mail and fulfillment.

Quite some time ago, the Matlys decided to invest in new digital print technology. The decision was not driven by desire to market their operations as environmentally friendly. It was driven by the desire to serve their customers better. “Our main focus is our customers, and how we can better service them,” says Joseph.

As it turned out, the new technology not only streamlined the turn-around time and cut cost, it was also a better choice for the environment. No more hazardous chemicals and wasting water in the shop. No more wasting scrap paper. “What we have is the process. It did not just happen overnight. We’ve always recycled paper and cardboard boxes,” says Matly. Corporate Printing prints 90% of their products on recycled paper. The company uses soy-based ink in most of its products.

The Matlys do not use buzzwords such as “corporate social responsibility” when talking about their business and employees. They just treat them right every day. “Most of my people have been with me for over 10 years. They love their work and have years of combined knowledge. I feel comfortable saying that my people will get it done, because they will get it done,” says Joseph.

Although Corporate Printing does not hold a green certification, it seems they are on a track to achieve it. It has become evident that responsible usage of resources and respectful treatment of people are a natural common sense approach for the Matley family on a daily basis.
