Free Green Money for Carmel Youth

Youth members of the Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program representing Carmel Area Roots & Shoots from right to left are Carmel High School students Emily Roberts, Nicki Hutchins, Lauren Gibson, and Kristen Palamara.

The Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program is offering $10,000 in $250, $500, and $1000 grants to fund 22 youth-led volunteer green projects in Carmel or Clay Township. Fall applications are due October 15, 2009.

Sample projects include:

  • planting trees (to reduce CO2)
  • purchasing and distributing rain barrels, recycling containers, or compost bins (to discourage the waste of natural resources)
  • creating organic community or school gardens
  • hosting roadside and waterways clean-up events
  • any green youth-driven project, be creative

Projects must be designed and carried out by young people, with adults serving as “guides on the side.”
School, scout, religious and other youth groups are encouraged to apply.
Applications and details are available at CarmelGreenTeen.org.

Fall application deadline is October 15, 2009. Grants will be available until monies are exhausted – apply now.

We would be happy to present information about the program to your youth group. Email info@carmelgreenteen.org

Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grants are available through a generous $10,000 award from Clorox Green Works natural cleaners. In April 2009, the local youth group Carmel Area Roots & Shoots (CAR&S) was awarded one of five nationwide Green Heroes grants to fund their micro-grant program. Adults from Carmel Green Initiative and United Way of Central Indiana’s Youth as Resources will assist in administering the grant process.

  • Before installing your rain barrels be sure to keep those rain gutters squeaky clean so your water flows freely and cleaner. We recommend you try the newly invented Gutter Clutter Buster, attachment tool for most standard shop vacs that have a 2-1/2" hose. Simply attach it to the hose and vacuum out all debris, wet or dry, while you stay on the ground, and you will have the cleanest gutters in town. Go on-line and you can find them and they are great people to work with.
