Carmel Library Hosting Patron Appreciation Week

The current Carmel Clay Public Library building turned 10 years old on May 2 of this year. To commemorate the occasion, the library hosted a daylong celebration that included a carnival, a childrens entertainer, and an art sale. To wrap up our 10th Anniversary year, the library will be hosting Patron Appreciation Week November 9–15. All Carmel residents are invited!

Beginning last spring, several areas of the library were remodeled to make better use of certain spaces and to improve the library overall. During Patron Appreciation Week, the public is invited to take guided tours of the building, including behind-the-scenes areas. Tours will be offered at the following times:

  • Monday, November 9: 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 10: 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, November 11: 10:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 12: 10:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.
  • Friday, November 13: Noon
  • Saturday, November 14: Noon & 3:30 p.m.

Also beginning November 9, library cardholders will be able to get a brand new library card, complete with a keychain tag and bookmark. The new card design is a tribute to the current library building.

Other opportunities during the week will be Friends Library Bookstore and Monon Coffee & Sweets specials; a library wide scavenger hunt (prizes will be awarded to those who complete the hunt); and a special sculpture display.

On Saturday, November 14, Marc & Max the Moose will entertain families with young children at 11:00 a.m. in the program room. Free tickets will be available beginning the Saturday before, online or at the children’s desk.

Later in the day, the Radloff Endowment Series: Building a Great Library for Your Community will take place in the program room at both 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Our special guest will be Jeff Scherer, design architect of the library. He will discuss the challenges libraries face today, as well as the value libraries add to their communities; the rediscovery of the public library during recessionary times like the present; and how libraries incorporate technology into their operational fabric, ensuring their relevance far into the future. Refreshments will be served.

To end the week on Sunday, November 15, patrons can enjoy the classic sounds of The Dolcé Trio – flute, violin and cello – any time between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. in the program room. The group has been performing together since 1981, playing elegant chamber music. Refreshments will be provided.

All Patron Appreciation Week activities are free and open to the public. For more information about any of the week’s activities, call the library at 571-4292.
